The True Color

Introduction

“The True Color” is a virtual reality game that player can see the world like people who have color blindness. Our goal is to teach the player to understand color blindness and be able to help other people who have color blindness.

What is Color Blindness?

Color blindness is not a form of blindness at all, but a deficiency in the way you see color. With this vision problem, you have difficulty distinguishing certain colors, such as blue and yellow or red and green. There are 3 type of color blindness in this game which are Protanopia, Deuteranopia and Tritanopia.

Inspiration

I have a few friends who have color blindness. Sometime I can’t help them in some situation because I don’t know how they see. Therefore I decide to create this game to explain how people who have color blindness see the world, so player can understand and help them.

Design

For the design, I was inspired by the stylize low poly model which simple but really beautiful, so I decide to use this style in my game. Moreover, the low poly style in simple so player can easily see the difference between color and understand color blindness. The pictures below are a reference that I use for my design.

Development

I create this virtual reality game using Unity with Google cardboard SDK which helps me a lot from setting up the camera to interaction in the game.

Moreover, I decide to use Unity Cinemachine and Timeline which are very powerful tool to create animation in the game and faster the development time.

For the visual of the game, I use Unity Post Processing Stack which improves visual quality in the game to the next level. Images below show the editor using post processing stack and compare the difference between normal game visual and game with post processing stack.
At last the main feature of the game is the color blindness filter. I decide to use color blindness shader that I found in the UnityAssetStore(https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/vfx/shaders/fullscreen-camera-effects/colorblind-effect-76360) to get the difference visual for each type of color blindness. Please see the image below to see the difference between normal view and color blindness view.
