UNITY GLOBAL STUDENT CHALLENGE OFFICIAL RULES

PLEASE READ THESE OFFICIAL RULES CAREFULLY. ENTRY INTO THIS CHALLENGE CONSTITUTES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ANY PART OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THIS CHALLENGE.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE OF ANY KIND WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
1. Challenge Description
The Unity Global Student Challenge (the “Challenge”) is a skills based contest promoting high-quality, student-developed projects. Unity believes games and VR/AR mediums have the ability to inspire action, promote compassion, demonstrate problem solving, and boost understanding. In this Challenge, student participants will research their topic areas and develop games or experiences using the Unity platform to increase understanding of their chosen topic. This Challenge will be run in accordance to these Official Rules (“Rules”).
2. Sponsor, Affiliates and Admins
The Challenge is organized and sponsored by Unity Technologies ApS, a Danish corporation with offices at Løvstræde 5, DK-1150 Copenhagen K, Denmark (“Sponsor” or “Unity”). “Unity Admins” are any companies or organizations authorized by Unity to aid administration or execution of this Challenge, including but not limited to Unity Affiliates and National Sweepstakes Company, LLC. “Unity Affiliate” means an entity that directly or indirectly controls, is controlled by or is under common control with Unity Technologies ApS.
3. Challenge Start and End Dates
The Challenge begins at 7:00AM Pacific, Monday, October 29, 2018 (the “Start Date”) and ends at 10:00PM Pacific, Thursday, January 31, 2019 (the “Deadline”).
4. Am I Eligible to Enter the Challenge?
You are eligible to enter this Challenge if you meet all of the following requirements as of the time and date of your entry (the following eligibility to be applied to each member of any Team submission):
a) You are an individual currently enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary educational institution;
b) You are 18 years of age or older but in no event less than the age of majority in your place of residence;
c) You have Internet Access, an Email Account, and access to a personal computer;
d) You are NOT a resident of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, or Syria, due to U.S. Export regulations;
e) You are NOT a resident of Quebec, Canada; Brazil; or Italy;
f) You have NOT won a prize from Unity or Unity Affiliates within the last 12 months;
g) You are NOT an employee of Unity or Unity Admins; and
h) You are NOT a family member or household member of any employee of Unity or Unity Admins.
Please Note: it is entirely your responsibility to review and understand your employer’s policies about your eligibility to participate in this Challenge. If you participate in violation of your employer’s policies, you and your Entry may be disqualified from the Challenge. Unity disclaims any and all liability or responsibility with respect to disputes arising between an employer and such employer’s employee in relation to this matter.
5. How do I Enter the Challenge?
To enter the Challenge, complete the steps below. You may enter the Challenge as an individual or as a member of a Team. Individuals are eligible to participate in the Challenge together as a “Team”, which may include at least one (1) but not more than a maximum of four (4) individual participants. Each Contest participant (as an individual or Team) is limited to one Entry. The first Team Member to submit an Entry shall be the “Team Lead” who must designate other Entry participants as collaborators.
Step 1. The participant (including all Team members) must have registered for and created a profile on Unity Connect and added the participant’s school to that Connect profile.
Step 2. The participant must create an Entry as outlined under “How to Create an Entry” in Section 6 below.
Step 3. The participant must submit an Entry on Unity Connect at https://connect.unity.com/challenges/gsc2018 (if participating as a Team, members must submit their Entry as contributors to the same project).
When submitting an Entry, be sure to (a) fill in and/or upload all required elements of the Entry; (b) tag any content uploaded with #StudentChallenge; and (c) identify your School and each Team member, if applicable, associated with the Entry.
Unity is not responsible for an Entry or part of an Entry that it does not receive for any reason, or for Entries that it receives but are inaccessible or illegible for any reason and such Entries may be disqualifies at Unity’s sole discretion.
6. How to Create an Entry
An “Entry” must include a project title, a brief project description of no more than two hundred fifty (250) characters in length and the following:
a) a three (3) to five (5) minute long 1080p video on a public video platform showcasing your final project as assembled in the Unity platform;
b) a written summary of the project and how it incorporates the theme of “Teach People Something New”;
c) outline the inspiration behind your project, identifying all reference and concept images used in your design;
d) highlight the tools and features used in creation of your project, including any assets you created or used from the Unity Asset Store; and
e) describe your work-in-progress, in either text or image format, to showcase your creative process.
7. Is my Entry an Eligible Entry?
To be eligible to be considered for a prize, as solely determined by Unity, your Entry must:
a) be made using Unity engine version 2018.1 or higher;
b) be in English;
c) be your own original work;
d) not have been submitted previously in any promotion of any kind or exhibited or displayed publicly through any means prior to submission to Unity as a Challenge entry;
e) not have been initiated as a design project by You (or any Team member) before September 2018;
f) not contain material or content that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, offensive, sexually explicit, pornographic, hateful, tortious, defamatory, or slanderous or libelous; promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual; promotes discrimination based on race, gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or age; promotes alcohol, illegal drugs, or tobacco; violates or infringes another’s rights, including but not limited to rights of privacy, publicity, or their intellectual property rights; is inconsistent with the message, brand, or image of Unity, is unlawful; or is in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations of any jurisdiction in which the Entry is created;
In addition to the above requirements, you MUST
a) prior to submission, have obtained any and all consents, approvals, or licenses required for you to submit your Entry;
b) not generate your Entry by any means which violate these Rules, the Unity Terms of Service, the Unity Connect Terms, or the Unity Privacy Policy;
c) not engage in false, fraudulent, or deceptive acts at any phase during your participation in the Challenge;
8. Disqualification.
If you or the Entry is found to be ineligible for any reason, including but not limited to noncompliance with Sections 4 through 7 of these Rules, Unity and Unity Affiliates reserve the right to disqualify the Entry and/or you from this Challenge and any other contest or promotional activity sponsored or administered in any way by Unity or Unity Affiliates.
9. How may the Entry potentially be used?
The Entry may be used in a few different ways. Unity does not claim to own the Entry, however, by submitting an Entry you hereby grant to Unity and Unity Affiliates a non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free, world-wide right and license to review and analyze your Entry in relation to this Challenge; and use your Entry or parts of your Entry in any media for any commercial or non-commercial purpose in connection with this Challenge and/or the marketing, sale, or promotion of Unity, Unity Affiliates and their respective products and services. You further agree that you will execute any necessary paperwork for Unity and Unity Affiliates to use the rights and licenses granted hereunder; and that you will not be compensated for the use of your Entry as described in these Rules. You acknowledge that the we may have developed or commissioned materials similar to your Entry and you waive any claims resulting from any similarities to your Entry. You understand that your Entry may be posted on a public website or social media channel and that Unity is not responsible for any unauthorized use of your Entry by visitors to such site. Notwithstanding the foregoing, except with respect to provision of Prizes, Unity is not obligated to use your Entry in any way even if your Entry is selected as a winning Entry.
10. How will Winners be Selected and Notified?
Entries will be judged by a panel of judges selected by Unity in its sole discretion. Judges’ decisions will be final and binding in all respects.
Judges will award each Entry a number of points based upon the following 100-point scale:
  • Potential Impact (up to 30 Points): Does this project drive home the message of the theme? Does it inspire the audience to action? Does it show potential success through public feedback?
  • Creativity (up to 25 Points): Does this project approach the problem from an interesting perspective? Does the art and design drive the narrative?
  • Polish (up to 25 Points): Does the end result work seamlessly? Does it look and feel complete?
  • Pitch (up to 20 Points): How strongly does your message convey to the audience?
  • Bonus Items (up to 10 Points): Is there an interesting use of new Unity engine features or use of Unity engine to create short films.
Subject to confirmation of eligibility, the Entry with the highest score will be awarded Grand Prize; the Entry with the most likes will be awarded a Community Choice Prize.
In the unlikely event of a tie, the Entry that received the most points in the Impact category will be deemed the applicable winner. If the score therein is tied, the winning Entry will be determined by the judges in their sole discretion.
Potential winners will be contacted within thirty (30) days of the completion of judging via the email associated with the participant’s Unity Connect profile (in the case of Team submissions, the Team Lead will be contacted). If a potential winner cannot be contacted, does not respond as directed, refuses the prize, or is found to be ineligible for any reason, such prize may be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner. Only one alternate winner will be selected per each prize package, after which prizes will remain unawarded.
To the extent that there is any dispute as to the identity of the potential winner, the official account holder of the email address associated with the Unity Connect account through which the Entry was first submitted will be deemed the official potential winner by Unity.
11. Your Odds of Winning
ODDS OF WINNING A PRIZE ARE SUBJECT TO THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ELIGIBLE ENTRIES RECEIVED AND HOW YOUR ENTRY SCORES IN ACCORDANCE TO THE JUDGING CRITERIA.
12. Prizes
The following prizes will be awarded subject to Unity’s confirmation of Entry eligibility as described in these Rules:
  • One Grand Prize: The Entry with the most points scored will receive (i) $10,000 in cash, (ii) a one-year Unity Pro License for each Entry participant for a total of four (4) (ARV: $1,500 per license); and (iii) a Unity Certification Exam Voucher for each Entry Participant for a total of four (4) (ARV: $1,036). Total Prize Max ARV: $17,036.
  • One Community Choice Prize: The Entry with the most likes submitted on Connect will receive (i) $5,000 in cash, (ii) a one-year Unity Pro License for each Entry participant for a total of four (4) (ARV: $1,500 per license); and (iii) a Unity Certification Exam Voucher for each Entry Participant for a total of four (4) (ARV: $1,036). Total Prize Max ARV: $12,036.
All prizes are non-transferable, and no substitutions of the prizes for cash, alternate goods or services, or any other prize is permitted. Notwithstanding the foregoing sentence, Unity reserves the right to provide a substitute prize of approximately equal value for any reason. PRIZES ARE AWARDED “AS-IS” WITH NO WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
All federal, state, and local or any other applicable taxes, license, title, and/or registration fees or other costs, associated with the prize are the sole responsibility of the winner. Unity, Unity Admins, and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents and assigns, will not be responsible for any such taxes, fees, and costs.
13. When will prizes be awarded?
The prizes will be awarded within a commercially reasonable time frame. Potential winners (including all Team participants) may be required to complete and sign additional documentation, such as a non-disclosures, representations and warranties, liability and publicity releases (unless prohibited by applicable law), and tax documents, or other similar documentation in order to claim the prize. Only prizes claimed in accordance to these Rules will be awarded. In the case of Team submissions, the prize will be awarded to the Team Lead who will be responsible for any prize sharing among the Team members. Unity disclaims all liability respect to the receipt, distribution and sharing of any prizes other than Unity’s distribution to the Team Lead.
14. Winner List
A list of all winners of this Challenge will be posted on the Contest page and Unity’s Learn site and may be announced at Unity’s discretion via Unity’s or Unity Affiliates’ Twitter, Facebook, Blog, or Website, or in person verbally at an Unity or Unity Affiliate sponsored or hosted event.
15. Your Personal Data and Privacy
You acknowledge and understand Unity’s Privacy Policy (located at unity3d.com/legal/privacy-policy) as well as Unity’s GDPR statement (located at unity3d.com/legal/gdpr), will govern Unity’s use of the personal data you submit or that is collected through your participation in this Challenge. Please refer to Section 6 of Unity’s Privacy Policy to see how to access, update, or delete your data.
Unity may use cookies and/or collect IP addresses for the purpose of implementing or exercising its rights or obligations under the Rules, for information purposes, identifying your location, including without limitation for the purpose of redirecting you to the appropriate geographic website, if applicable, or for any other lawful purpose in accordance with the Privacy Policy.
Unity may use the personal data you provide (inclusive of your photograph if included in your Connect profile) via your participation in this Challenge (i) to contact you in relation to the Challenge; (ii) to confirm the details of your eligibility (which may include written verification of your secondary or post-secondary institution enrollment) or your Entry; (iii) to administer and execute this Challenge, including sharing it with Unity Admins; (iv) at Unity’s discretion, to credit any one or more Entry participants for the Entry, identify any one or more Entry participants as a prize winner, or other similar notice; and (v) as otherwise noted in these Rules or as necessary for Unity to meet its obligations under these Rules or applicable law.
16. Additional Terms and Conditions
If Unity determines, in its sole discretion, that any portion of this Challenge is compromised by virus, bugs, unauthorized human intervention, or any other causes beyond its control, that in the sole opinion of Unity corrupts, or impairs the administration, security, fairness or proper participation in/of the Challenge, Unity reserves the right to (a) cancel the Challenge; (b) pause the Challenge until such time the aforementioned issues may be resolved; or (c) consider only those Entries submitted prior to the when the Challenge was so compromised for the prizes.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree that Unity, Unity Affiliates, and Unity Admins, and each of their directors, officers, employees, agents and assigns, will not be liable for personal injuries, death, damages, expenses or costs or losses of any kind resulting from participation or inability to participate in this Challenge or acceptance of or use or inability to use a prize or parts thereof including, without limitation, claims, suits, injuries, losses and damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light (whether intentional or unintentional), whether under a theory of contract, tort (including negligence), warranty or other theory.
Your use of any other products and services required by these Rules, whether required by these Rules or not, are subject to the terms and conditions associated with such products or services.
BY SUBMITTING AN ENTRY, YOU ALSO ACCEPT AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY UNITY’S PRIVACY POLICY (HTTPS://UNITY3D.COM/LEGAL/PRIVACY-POLICY), THE UNITY TERMS OF SERVICE (HTTPS://UNITY3D.COM/LEGAL/TERMS-OF-SERVICE), AND THE UNITY CONNECT TERMS AND CONDITIONS (HTTPS://CONNECT.UNITY.COM/PUBLIC/TERMS/TERMS.HTM) IN ADDITION TO THESE RULES.
In the event any clause or provision of these Rules prove unenforceable, void or incomplete, the validity of the other conditions will remain unaffected.
